Robotics
When
we want to talk about robotics, we are talking about the creativity of science
and engineering together. Mechanical, electronic and information engineering
cooperate with computer science, design, construction, operation as well as the
use of computer systems to create such amazing robotics.
What Robots Mean?
It's
a good question. You can say that they are machines which can be developed by
new technologies and replicate human actions. There are lots of situations and
purposes for which robots can be, but they are mainly used in dangerous
environments, manufacturing processes, or in space. Robots mostly take the
appearance of humans in order to be accepted in certain behaviors usually
performed by people; Such as speech, walking, lifting, and anything a human can
do.
Robotic aspects
Although
there are many types of robots according to the usage of them for many
different purposes and in many different environments, they all share three
basic things in their construction:
1.
In order for the to complete
the assigned task and deal with the environment around it, the mechanical
aspect is constructed by the creator of the robot to achieve the required task.
For example, caterpillar tracks are designed for the robot which is used to
travel across heavy dirt or mud. So, the form follows the function.
2.
Electrical components are
required for all robots in order to power and control the machinery. That electricity
requires a wire to travel through and a battery to originate from as a basic
electrical circuit in order to generate power, even petrol-powered machines also
require an electric current to start the combustion process. The electrical
aspect of robots is used for movement, sensing and operation.
3.
Computer programming code is
required for all robots at different levels, we can name it "the brain of
the robot" by which the robot decides when or how to do something. In the
caterpillar track example, the robot needs a program telling it to move. The
performance of the robot depends on the construction of the Programs as they are
the core essence of any robot. There are three different types of robotic
programs: remote control, artificial intelligence and hybrid.
Robotics Applications
Robots
are used in many applications according to the purpose or the specific task for
which the robot is designed. For example, the robots which are designed for
assembly work, won't be adaptable for other applications. Some robots are
specifically designed for heavy load duty work, and are called "heavy duty
robots". Here are some fields in which robots may be applicable:
-
Military Robots
These
robots are used for the military purposes.
-
Industrial
Robots
ü In manufacturing.
ü Automotive industry.
-
Collaborative
Robots
-
Construction Robots
Construction
robots can be separated into three types:
1.
Traditional robots.
2.
Robotic arm.
3.
Robotic exoskeleton.
-
Agriculture
Robots
ü Perform a herding task.
ü Drone usage.
-
Medical Robots
ü Facilitate a complex surgery such as da Vinci surgical system
ü Used in healthcare such as HOSPI
-
Kitchen
Automation and Domestic Robots
Such
as that used for household chores, education and entertainment.
